Primary school is the best place to start thinking about social issues and discussing them with classmates.
The younger children become aware of diversity in society, and how everyone is shaped by their home environment and background, the better prepared they will be to develop into socially engaged individuals in secondary school. Every child brings something different from home, and I believe it is important to provide space to share this with classmates without judgment. At the same time, children also learn to listen to other, sometimes opposing, viewpoints. This broadens their perspective and fosters mutual understanding.
I offer two types of workshops, both covering various citizenship themes depending on your needs. Each workshop lasts 1.5 hours and is interactive, using dynamic teaching methods.
In times of polarization, it is more important than ever to listen to each other.
But how do you do that effectively? And how do you express your opinion in a way that encourages others to listen?
In this workshop, children learn listening and debating techniques to better articulate their opinions. They reflect on how everyone’s experiences and background influence their view of the world.
Using a topic of choice, we practice these skills through informational videos and statements that children can agree or disagree with. Can children adjust their opinion based on new information? Do they dare to stick to their authentic viewpoint, even if they are the only one in the class?
Interactive workshops where we discuss important social issues.
First, children learn the basics about the topic through videos, explanations, and exercises. Afterwards, they work independently or in small groups on an assignment. In this task, children actively reflect on the theme and how they personally relate to it. The workshop concludes with a dialogue where children discuss the topic with one another.
